This month our guest speaker is Howard Brown OAM, a long-time advocate for victims of crime who will be speaking about ‘How to survive the Criminal Legal System‘.

Howard Brown OAMVictims of Crime AdvocateHoward studied law for six years and found himself unable to pass the subject of Taxation. He then became a Private Investigator and when one of his friends was murdered, he realised that what he had learned at law school was not really accurate – there was no real protection for victims of crime.
In 1991 Howard was instrumental in establishing the Sydney arm of the Victims of Crime Assistance League (VoCAL) and held the position of President. He played a vital role on the Victims Advisory Board and on the NSW Sentencing Council for about 20 years.
Howard supports the Homicide Victims Support Group, Enough is Enough, Mission Australia, STACSA (Stand Together Against Sexual Abuse) Gunnedah, and Homicide Victims Association.
Howard was awarded the Order of Australia medal in June 2004, and in 2011 was made an Honorary Fellow of the University of NSW for his work with the university and for Victims of Crime.
