Explore the different meanings of black across a century of fashion, from mourning a loved one, to the chic elegance of the little black dress, at Old Government House’s new major exhibition Back to Black.
In drawing from the National Trust’s dress collection, the objects on display span more than 100 years. They include well-known designers – both Australian and international – alongside examples made in the home or by unknown, skilled dressmakers. To learn more, click the link here.
We will be given a guided tour of approximately 45 minutes by the exhibition’s Curator, Anna Ridley, followed by time to explore historic Old Government House before adjourning to Club Parramatta for lunch.

Where:
Old Government House, Parramatta Park – the tour starts at 10:30am in front of the gift shop of Old Government House.
Optionally meet beforehand for coffee at 9:30 at Good George Cafe, George Street Gate House to Parramatta Park (a two-minute walk from the house)
Accessibility:
The Back to Black exhibition is on the first floor, accessible only by stairs. There are limited courtesy chairs throughout the building.
Getting there:
If driving, it is probably best to park in the Club Parramatta carpark in Macquarie Street (you will need to have your ticket validated when purchasing lunch to avoid the $12 flat rate fee). Parking within Parramatta Park is mostly 2-hour but is often crowded.
It is about a 15-minute walk from Parramatta Railway Station and a 20-minute walk from the Ferry Wharf.
