Review – Bathurst, Orange and Mayfield Gardens

Highlights from our Probus trip to Bathurst, Orange and Mayfield Gardens at Oberon.

Our first Stop was Mt Tomah, Botanical Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Blue Mountains.  At Portland, Art Silo paintings depicting 5 workers from the Portland Cement Works was great.

Next stop was Bathurst and a visit to Abercrombie House, owned by Chris Morgan who is restoring the house to its’ original splendour. Chris went through the history which was very interesting.

After exploring Bathurst and its’ great architecture, we did a lap around Mt Panorama, no speed for us oldies unfortunately!

In Orange our group learnt about its history , visited Mt Canobolas, Duntryleague Guest House and a wine tasting at Philip Shaw winery.

The best was saved for last. Mayfield Gardens was magnificent, starting at the Chapel and walking down through the different features, trees, shrubs splendid in autumn colours, waterfalls, lakes and bridges, beautiful rhododendrons and pretty flowers.

In three days we covered a lot of ground, our group mixed well.  There was lots of laughter, intermingling and most of all, we had fun.
