  Writer, historian, television presenter, speaker, podcaster

  David is the author of the bestselling and award-winning “Girt – The Unauthorised History of Australia” (winner of the 2014 Indie Award for Non-Fiction Book of the Year and shortlisted for loads of other stuff). The sequel, “True Girt”, was shortlisted for Audiobook of the Year at the 2017 Australian Book Industry Awards and the 2017 Russell Prize for Humour Writing. The sequel to the sequel, “Girt Nation”, has been unjustly ignored by the awards community.

  David also writes children’s picture books, with The Nose Pixies published in 2016 and My Real Friend in 2019.

  David co-presented “Aussie Inventions That Changed The World” on Foxtel’s History Channel in 2019. He also worked as a writer for the series.

  David wrote and co-presented the ABC Radio Australian history podcast, “Rum, Rebels & Ratbags”, which was one of Rolling Stone’s four hottest podcasts of 2016 and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Ten History Podcasts You Need to Hear. He wrote and narrated a series of animated videos for the National Museum of Australia’s Defining Moments in Australian History resources.

  David has written for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Monthly, The Guardian, Financial Times and The Chaser Quarterly. He regularly appears on ABC Radio to discuss Australian history and books.

  David was a speaker at TEDxSydney 2017 and is a corporate/after dinner speaker and MC, repped by Saxton Speakers Bureau.

  David is a public policy expert with experience in policy review, development and advice; the preparation of legislation; and operational management. David has worked in senior NSW public sector positions and as a consultant.
